colored skinnies

I don't know about you but I LOATHE shopping for jeans or bottoms in general.  I know I'm skinny but I still have my own body flaws that get accentuated with the wrong fit.  I look for jeans that fit well in the thigh without too much pulling/bunching or excess fabric; has a nice lift in the bum, and comfortable waistband that don't dig in.  Besides hemming the legs I am not big on alterations, mainly because I don't have a good seamstress and secondly they can be costly.

Comfort is a big deal, I need to be able to sit and squad while wearing them.  I remember in the old days when I would go jean shopping and the sales people would always tell me to go a size down because "they stretch so much".  I no longer purchase jeans that are one size too small in consideration for the "potential stretch" because I never end up wearing them long enough for them to stretch out.

I hope these reviews will be of help to you with your hunt for the perfect colored skinnies.

Hudson  $225cad

These are most denim like in terms of thickness and texture.  It's definitely more red and not as orangey in my photos.  I tried on the size 25 and I couldn't button up.  The fabric is quite rigid with some stretch.  It's a shorter rise and a longer inseam.

Rag & Bone $195cad/$165usd
These had the highest rise and the shortest inseam out of the ones I tried on.  The color is absolutely gorgeous! Fabric is a nice cotton with a good amount of stretch.  Front pockets are faux.  I am happy with the fit of the 25, it's snug but not uncomfortably so.

Jbrand twill skinnies $215cad/$176usd

I had tried them on in bright red a while back.  For some reason I remembered the fabric being stretchier than the ones I tried on today, which is a new delivery in a darker red.  Front two pockets are faux.  The fabric is stiffer and coarser compared to the Rag&Bones and not as stretchy.  I found the 25 to be tight, even though I can button up but I was not comfortable.  Inseam is longer than the Rag&Bone but shorter than Hudson.

AG Stevies $205
Original review can be found here.  I just want to add that in comparison, Stevies has the softest and stretchiest fabric.  IMO the quality of the Rag&Bone fabric is the best, it had a softness and the right amount of stretch and the fabric looks like it will hold shape and is of great quality cotton.  Stevies on the other hand does stretch quite a bit and has a thinner fabric almost like jeggings.  The fit is undeniably amazing though.

I don't have photos but I have previous tried Current Elliot colored jeans which were awful me.  It's more of a casual boyfriend fit with very loose fitting legs, not a good look on me but probably will look cute on the right person.

Have you tried on any of these colored skinnies? I'd love to hear your thoughts or recommendations.

You must have read my mind! I've been meaning to try on the JBrand Skinnies 29". My Stevies are so beloved that I swear I will only buy "ankle length" denim from now on. No more bunching up at the ankles, thank you very much. In the photos, all the denim look awesome on you so I really appreciate your comments to help distinguish one from the other. The blue Rag and Bone ones are especially striking. You definitely have strong will power. I would have snatched up a couple pairs if they looked that good on me ;)

Normally I am a HUGE fan of the AG skinnies but somehow the color at Anthro isn't appealing to me. I'm also a 25 or 26 depending on the brand like you. For me the blue Rag and Bone has a great cobalt blue color, the fabric is thicker than the JBrand and for sure the AG jeans but I prefer the material of the JBrand (lighter) because I live in CA (heat) and my bottom looks way better in the JBrand than the Rag and Bone. HTH.

steph, yes i definitely picked up the vibes you were sending. :) yes the rag and bone were my fave for sure, i love love love the color.

joelle, i can see why some might not like the anthro colors, they aren't as bright and are a bit more washed looking. i don't know why the jbrands fit so tight since i recall them being super stretchy the last time i tried them on, they are quite bum friendly., which color did you get?

I got the cobalt blue in JBrand because the red ones that I tried was veering towards pink (I didn't like that too much). However I am going to go back to Bloomingdales to see if they have the dark red. It's strange I felt that the R&B were too tight on me (in a 26) but that the JBrand were perfect not tight and not loose and their fabric felt good. BTW, I got a cardigan to match with the Gull Swing polka dotted dress from Anthro thanks to your rec I got one :

It matches the trimming on that dress. Thanks for the rec about the fit of the cardigan.

oh the cobalt blue, that is definitely THE best color! I was so gun ho about getting my first pair of colored skinnies in this color, but unfortunately the stevies doesn't come in that beautiful shade. :( that is odd that you found the R&B fit smaller, but our bodies are all different and i think different colored jbrands can fit differently, i remember when i was trying on the houlihans, i had to size down in some washes while tts in some others.
yaay u found a cardi, does it work? u can even look at various shades of that color as well, even if it's off it could still work. i think with so many of us owing the gull wing, i should do a gull wing dress day.

Because of your blog I fell in love with the gull swing dress. I'd have love to get a navy one but they only had the polka dotted one or pink or stripe one to choose from a couple of weeks ago. That being said, I still love the polka dotted one and the BR cardigan is going to be perfect imo.

Def do the gull swing dress day, it'd be wonderful to see how people would wear it. Did u check out the sales at J.Crew or CM this weekend?

hi joelle, glad i was able to enable. i really love the gull wing dress, the navy one was one of the few things i purchased from anthro at full price, i just didn't want to bother with the hunt and also risk getting a damaged one once it hit sale. and it's totally worth every penny i'd say. i'm glad you found the perfect cardigan for your dress, it's going to be stunning i'm sure. there was absolutely no sale item at the jcrew yorkdale store, and a lot of the reg priced things are already quite sold out. As for CM I was able to visit a couple stores and came away with the black pamera skirt and a cashmere sweater. I plan on popping into another one later on this afternoon, though i sure as heck don't need anything else in my wardrobe. how about you? did you check out your local cm stores?

J.Crew didn't have many items on sale at the store, it's strange but a lot of items are going directly online to final sale which is kind of depressing because my local store doesn't carry a huge selection.

I didn't get a chance to pop in CM because my 2 year old threw a tantrum right before we went in. It was a sign that I wouldn't spend any $ this weekend. I ALWAYS have a hard time buying at CM especially bottoms but I'm seriously contemplating the skirt (dark burgundy) and the tunic sweater that you reviewed.

jcrew's final sale business really sucks, i have sooo much stuff from them that're sitting in my closet with tags still on thanks to the wonderful 'final sale'. oh those are my favourites too! that tunic is seriously pretty awesome, and that burgundy skirt is just perfect for fall, great picks. buying pants is always very tricky, cm pants don't quite fit me either, i find myself in between sizes.

Hi,
I decided a few months ago I would not buy from JCrew Final Sale because I couldn't try the stuff and I'm always in between sizes (either XS or S in tops and for bottom 0 or 00). It's so hard to buy online and I don't want to take a chance. Luckily I do live nearby 3 stores so I could always hop over to SF and check things out.

I love CM but have never bought any of their bottoms because they just don't fit me right the way Theory pants or BR fits me. Sadly I didn't make it to CM to check out their sale. BTW, if you're looking for a black skinny jeans I have found the most softest one from AG (again I know) Stilt in black. It's seriously the softest/darkest black skinny jean that I have picked up. I normally would never pay full price on a pair but I am so glad I picked it up. It's my first pair of black skinny jean.

you have access to 3 stores? that's awesome. i know jcrew has some crazy markdowns at the store sometimes, i remember a few years ago they use to run 50% off sale merchandise promos, those were great! oh i hate it when i'm in between sizes since i'm not a believer in alterations. the CM sale is mostly summer stuff anyways, so that's okay you didn't miss out on too much. thanks for the recommendation, i will look for the black stilts next time i'm in store. i can't get enough of black skinnies, actually black bottoms in general.
